MIDRES LIBRARY

The MIDRES library, created to implement a rudimentary form of medium resolution graphics support, allows you to quickly create games for many 8-bit platforms. Thanks to its linear API and to the availability of additional tools, such as the tile generator and the image generator, it is possible to write a program once that will run on more than eleven home computing platforms.

HOW TO USE THE LIBRARY

To add support for the midres library, simply include the “midres.h” file in the necessary sources. This file contains all the definitions and data types required for manipulating the screens, doing animations and so on.

For some activities, you can use some tools “out of the box”:

  • img2midres - to convert images into midres screens.
  • img2tile - to convert images into programmable tiles.

HOW TO BUILD

Official repository contains a generic makefile.

The makefile has been designed to be able to compile a specific demo, game or tutorial for a specific platform.

To compile the demo “TILE” for Commodore 64, the command is

 make demo=TILE target=c64 clean all

To compile the tutorial “CTILE” for Atari, the command is

 make demo=CTILE target=atari clean all

To compile the game “Air Attack!” for Commodore 128, the command is

 make game=airattack target=c128 clean all

A make clean should be always executed before any rebuild.
