LOWER ✓

SYNTAX

   = LOWER( text )

PURPOSE

The LOWER function converts all uppercase characters in a string to lowercase. In other words, it takes a string as input and returns a new string that is identical to the first, but with all the letters lowercase.

The LOWER function examines each character in the input string. If the character is an uppercase letter, it is converted to its lowercase equivalent. All other characters (numbers, symbols, spaces) remain unchanged.

Before comparing or searching strings, it is often useful to convert all strings to lowercase or uppercase to avoid case-sensitive problems. It can be used to make user input less case-sensitive, such as to check whether a keyword was entered correctly regardless of case. To perform search and replace, text parsing, and other string manipulation, the LOWER command is ideal.

EXAMPLE

  x = LOWER( "ugBASIC" )
